About the Institute of Social Work (ISW)
The Institute of Social Work was established under the Institute of Social Work Act [Cap 110 R.E 2002], later revised by the Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendments) (No. 3) Act of 2002.
Over the years, ISW has introduced numerous academic programmes, starting with the Certificate in Labour Studies (1982) and later the Advanced Diploma in Labour Studies (1990). Since then, ISW has expanded its offerings to include:

ISW Admission Requirements
1. Basic Technician Certificate (NTA Level 4)
-
Minimum of four (4) passes in the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE), excluding religious subjects.
-
OR a certificate from a NACTE-recognized institution or NVA Level 3 qualification (minimum 6 months).
2. Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 5 & 6)
Direct Entry:
-
At least 1 principal pass and a subsidiary pass in two relevant subjects, totaling 1.5 points (E and S).

Four (4) CSEE credits.
Equivalent Entry:
-
Basic Technician Certificate (GPA 2.0+) from a NACTE-recognized institution and four (4) CSEE passes.

OR Grade III A Teacher Certificate (average C) from a NACTE-accredited institution.

OR Nursing/Midwifery certificate and equivalent courses with four (4) CSEE passes.
3. Bachelor Degree (NTA Level 7–8)

A-Level before 2014: Two principal passes (4.0 points).

A-Level 2014–2015: Two principal passes (two C’s) with 4.0 points.

A-Level 2016 onwards: Two principal passes with a combined score of 4.0 points.

Minimum four (4) O-Level passes or equivalent as recognized by NECTA/VETA.
4. Postgraduate Diploma

Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in a relevant field of Social Sciences with a pass grade.
5. Master’s Degree (NTA Level 9)
One-year programme:

Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work or Bachelor’s/Advanced Diploma in Social Work with GPA 2.7+.
Two-year programme:
-
Bachelor’s/Advanced Diploma in Social Sciences (e.g., Education, Psychology, Sociology, Health Sciences, Community Development) with GPA 2.7+.

Must complete Foundation & Advanced Modules (260 credits) if no prior background in Social Work.
